Ahead of the much-touted Economic Reform Roundtable, Jim Chalmers has asked the media for self-restraint by abandoning the standard form of questioning he calls the “rule-in-rule-out game”.
He claimed, “Limiting [ministers] to ruling things in or out forever, has a cancerous effect on policy debates.”
Clearly, Chalmers will not tolerate questions requiring “yes” or “no” answers.
Media circles were rife with rage, believing Chalmers plans to muzzle them:
~ One feisty female reporter roared, “He wants to geld us.”
~ Another declared, “So, he thinks he can tame us. What a joke!”
The following day, a newspaper advertisement appeared in all major dailies:
Federal treasurer seeks the services of a circus lion tamer. Chair, whip and muzzles provided.
Chalmers exercised self-restraint by not seeking the services of a veterinary surgeon.
